Creating Identity for a Space
Koreatown in Sydney's CBD has been the official designated space where Korean businesses and cultural activity would meet the wider Australian community.
However due to post-covid economic downturn, withdrawal of Korean businesses and local community has contributed to an absence of visual and cultural identity. This project aimed to revitalise contemporary meaning and belonging to this urban space through graphic-led narrative moments and visual wayfinding.
I intended to present the experience of venturing through Koreatown as a spiritual passage, where Illustrations depict traditional cultural activities and narratives to complement contemporary use spaces such as dining and shopping. Mural painting, tile installations and a re-design of signage act as wayfinding devices, guiding the user through Koreatown's porous boundaries.
